Exclusive interview with Baiba Cabovska of Waters Technologies

Ahead of her presentation at next month's E&L China conference, we spoke to Baiba Cabovska, Senior Manager at Waters Technologies, to get her insights on why attending this event is important, future significant changes in the Chinese market and to get a sneak peek of her presentation on 'targeted screening for E&L by using ion mobility LC-MS'.

Q1. You are speaking on targeted screening for E&L by using ion mobility LC-MS, why do you feel this is an important topic for the industry?

As you can imagine, there are multiple analytical technologies required to do a proper testing for E&L. Ion mobility provides additional confidence when performing targeted screening for extractables due to the collisional cross section data. This allows analysts to reduce the number of false positives, which can occur with large screening libraries and complex matrices like polymer extracts.

Q2. Waters participates in our Europe and US conferences; why do you feel it is important to be involved in an additional event looking at E&L regulations in China?

Smithers Rapra's conferences always gather the experts in the field and are the best place to learn about the latest developments in E&L. From USP updates, to biopharma and single-use systems, there is something to learn each time.

Q3. What do you think are the most significant changes taking place in the Chinese market in the coming 12-18 months?

The new regulations! It will be a busy time in Chinese market as everyone will be learning how to implement the required testing for their products.

Q2. What are you most looking forward to at the event?

I am looking forward to interact with the local attendees and learn about their challenges. The experience and knowledge we have gained working with customers in the USA and Europe, will be useful for our Asian customers as well.

Baiba will be presenting as part of the 'Enabling Science in E&L' session on day two of the conference. Other speakers in the session include West Pharmaceutical Packaging (China) and Agilent Technologies.
